We were given this booklet and it made for an interesting read along the journey back home.
Though I still have few major gripes, I cannot seem to agree with most of what they told me.
For example,
-dancing is a sin
-spending your money on perfumes, etc. is sinful as they money can be utilized in a better way
-strictly no reading fantasy novels; Eragon, Harry Potter...
-strictly no fantasy movies
-Evolution and anything of sort shouldn't be taught in schools/universities because God created everything
-Space exploration is a controversial topic as most of them strongly oppose to the idea while a small number thinks that it's beneficial.
-No stem cell research or cloning of any living thing, including the future cloning of liver/heart etc.
-They shunted the idea of scientists trying to figure out everything in life.
The thing is they do not believe that an advancement in science is needed. I argued that through our curiosity, we learn more and we improve at the same time. I said that I strongly believe our future generation should have the option of having their major organs or tissues cloned so that it can be used in the case of emergency. I want the future generation to have the best medicines at their disposal. That way, many years from now the earth will have less sick people. Don't you want to live in a better world where almost all sickness and perhaps cancer can be cured? How would you feel if your child needed a kidney transplant but she couldn't find a suitable donor? Won't you wish for science to be able to help her? Or did you rather have you child die for the sake of "God did not intent for us to do so" ?
If I were to have a sick child in desperate need of medication and/or surgery, I would NOT even think twice WHETHER it is ACCEPTABLE in God's view.
Sorry but things like this make me look at Christianity in disgust. I sincerely do not know how many of you oppose to the idea of science making our life better.
Perhaps some of you will enlighten me on this matter.
